WHEREAS the office of Mayor for the Municipality of Huron Shores was declared vacant on January 15, 2025, in accordance with Section 262 of the Municipal Act, 2001 ; AND WHEREAS Councillor Armstrong has expressed interest in assuming the office of the Mayor; AND WHEREAS Council is required under Section 263(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001 to fill the vacancy by appointing a person who has consented to accept the office or by passing a by-law requiring a by-election; AND WHEREAS Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the Municipality to appoint a sitting member of Council to the office of Mayor to ensure continuity and effective governance; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council hereby directs that the office of Mayor be filled by appointing a sitting member of Council at the Special Meeting of Council to be held on January 29, 2025; AND THAT Councillors who wish to be considered for the position of Mayor shall declare their interest during the January 29, 2025, Special Council meeting.

WHEREAS the office of the Mayor for the Municipality of Huron Shores was declared vacant on January 15th, 2025, and will be filled by appointing a sitting member of Council at the Special Meeting on January 29, 2025; AND WHEREAS additional vacancies on Council remain to be filled in accordance with Section 263 of the Municipal Act, 2001, to ensure full representation of the community; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT following the appointment of a Mayor at the January 29, 2025, Special Council Meeting, Council will declare the second Council seat vacant and will fill the remaining vacant Council seats by appointment; AND THAT Council directs the Clerk to issue a public call for expressions of interest from qualified individuals who meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Municipal Act, 2001, following the appointment of the Mayor; AND THAT qualified applicants shall be invited to a Special Meeting of Council held Wednesday, March 5, 2025, to present their qualifications and interest in serving on Council.
